Gas Explosion at Fort Worth Hotel Leaves 20 Injured
Fort Worth, TX – A gas explosion at the Sandman Hotel in downtown Fort Worth has resulted in at least 20 people being injured. The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 3:32 p.m., prompting multiple calls reporting a “type of explosion” at the hotel.
Emergency responders, including the Fort Worth Fire Department, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. According to the fire department, 19 patients were treated on-site, while one individual took themselves to the hospital. Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities thus far.
Among those affected by the blast were employees of Musume, the popular restaurant situated inside the hotel. Three restaurant staff members were injured, yet they are said to be in stable condition. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion, with early concerns pointing towards a possible gas leak.
In response to the incident, a family reunification area has been established at Sundance Square for individuals unable to contact their loved ones following the explosion. Meanwhile, Tarrant County offices in the downtown area remain closed as a precautionary measure.
Eyewitnesses who were present at the time of the blast reported smelling natural gas in the moments leading up to the explosion. They also recalled witnessing dust and smoke filling the second floor of the hotel, further exacerbating the chaos and confusion that ensued.
In light of the incident, Governor Greg Abbott has been in contact with local officials and stands prepared to deploy additional resources if deemed necessary. The fire department is currently collaborating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to ascertain the exact cause of the gas explosion.
